Hyderabad witnessed strong protests on Saturday as several women’s groups gathered outside Gachibowli Stadium, where the 72nd Miss World pageant was taking place.
As contestants from 116 countries showcased evening wear on the ramp inside the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, protestors rallied outside, criticizing the event. They claimed the pageant promotes Western ideals that, in their view, encourage nudity and go against Indian cultural values.
The women shouted slogans, expressing anger toward the government's support of the event. They argued that such global contests objectify women and do not represent the true essence of female empowerment.
Soon after the protest began, police intervened. They detained several demonstrators and took them to the nearest police station to avoid disruption.
Despite the protests, the pageant continued inside with tight security in place.
