RANGAREDDY – In the fast-growing southern part of the city, Rajendranagar is becoming a strong revenue zone. But despite its growth, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is struggling to provide enough sweepers in local colonies. This shortfall is causing frustration among residents.
Many colonies in the area are left without regular cleaning. Locals say poor supervision and a serious lack of staff are to blame. With streets not being swept, trash is now piling up in open spaces, making the situation worse.
Adding to the problem, GHMC hasn’t replaced cleaners who passed away over the past year. People living in these neighborhoods are worried about the serious shortage of sanitation workers, especially sweepers. They’re now questioning how well GHMC is managing basic services.
Residents from several colonies have repeatedly asked GHMC officials to fill the vacant posts. But their requests have been ignored. In Shastripuram Colony, locals are demanding that the jobs left vacant by deceased workers be filled immediately.
Despite several reminders, GHMC has not taken any action. Residents feel their appeals are being dismissed and their concerns overlooked. Some even filed a Right to Information (RTI) application to get answers. But they say GHMC’s reply was unclear and failed to justify its inaction.
“There’s been a huge population jump in Shastripuram Colony and nearby areas,” said M.A.H. Asif, a local resident. “But the number of sanitation workers hasn’t increased at all.”
He added that even though there’s already an approved budget for replacing deceased workers, GHMC officials seem uninterested in resolving the issue. Residents now feel abandoned by the very system meant to serve them.
