Hyderabad: On Tuesday, people across the world celebrated World Earth Day. Environmentalists used the occasion to highlight the urgent need for clean energy sources, especially solar power, to help fight climate change.
This year’s Earth Day theme is “Our Power, Our Planet.” The goal is to encourage the use of natural and renewable resources. Many groups are organizing awareness campaigns to promote renewable energy and educate people on the importance of switching to cleaner energy.
Experts say that moving quickly towards renewable energy can help protect nature and support local communities. They believe it’s important to create an energy system that is not only cost-effective but also good for the environment. Solar power and biomass are seen as key solutions to protect the climate and reduce pollution.
Narasimha Reddy, an environmental expert, pointed out that in April, Telangana used about 17,000 megawatts of energy, with 90% coming from thermal sources like coal. He said there is a need to shift to solar energy in homes, businesses, industries, and farming. He suggested that the government should come up with new ideas, such as installing solar panels wherever possible and supporting electricity generation from biogas, which is currently used in only a few areas.
Sai Teja, an environmental supporter, said that for Telangana, solar power is the best option because the state gets a lot of sunlight. He praised the central government for offering subsidies for solar power and encouraged the Telangana government to do the same. He also stressed the importance of awareness campaigns to help more people understand and adopt solar energy.
Environmental activist Mohammed Abid Ali added that renewable energy is the key to protecting the Earth. He said Telangana’s solar projects, like solar parks and rooftop systems, are helping communities get clean power while lowering pollution. He believes solar energy can create jobs, support rural areas, and protect the environment. He also said that using solar power fits perfectly with Earth Day’s goal—using our energy wisely today will lead to a greener tomorrow.
