Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu announced that the 4,000 MW Yadadri Power Plant will be ready by January 15, 2026.
As the Energy Minister, Bhatti criticized the previous BRS government for halting work on the Yadadri Power Plant for nearly two years after the National Green Tribunal stopped environmental clearances in October 2022. He stated that delays in such a large project, which involves huge investments, put a significant financial strain on the state’s residents.
The Congress government held a public consultation in February 2024 and secured the necessary environmental clearances. Since then, daily monitoring of the project has been in place, with a weekly task schedule to ensure progress. Two units have so far been completed.
Bhatti explained that if weekly targets are missed, responsible officials and engineers are held accountable. Efforts like building a railway line for coal supply and setting up townships for workers are progressing on set timelines. Coordination with BHEL, local representatives, and officials is ongoing.
He promised that with CSR funds, nearby villages will receive free world-class education and corporate-level healthcare. Each mandal will have an ambulance, and the area will get CC roads, flyovers, and funds for land acquisition for road work.
Addressing rumors that Congress means no power, he stated: “Congress means current, current means Congress.” He recalled that in 1978, under a previous Congress government, machinery from Japan’s Mitsubishi was imported for electricity generation using Pumped Storage Technology.
He highlighted that hydropower, thermal, solar, and wind projects started under Congress continue to operate successfully. In contrast, the sub-critical technology Bhadradri power unit from past administrations was a failure. He declared that Telangana aims to become a hub for advanced green power.
The government spends Rs 17,000 crore to provide free electricity to 29 lakh agricultural pump-sets and 51 lakh families (200 units each). Bhatti clarified that the government pays these costs on behalf of the poor, maintaining a steady power supply despite the challenges.
He dismissed opposition claims that jobs could simply be uploaded online, emphasizing that job offerings are a show of solidarity with land-sacrificing families.
The Deputy CM also noted that compassionate appointments were given to families of 159 TSGENCO employees who passed away in service.
