Wanaparthi District celebrated World Yoga Day on Saturday with a yoga session at the local Marrikunta Tribal Welfare School. The event, organized by the AYUSH Department, saw participation from the Collector, officials, and students who practiced yoga together.
Suguna, the District Yoga Chief Secretary, led the yoga exercises. The Collector highlighted the importance of daily yoga, pointing out that it helps counter health issues caused by a busy lifestyle, promoting overall well-being.
He mentioned that yoga has been part of Indian life for centuries, and in 2014, it was designated as a global celebration on June 21 by the Prime Minister. This date was chosen because the sun shines longest on this day.
The Collector emphasized that regular yoga practice not only enhances physical health but also provides mental peace and stress resilience.
He urged young people to avoid drugs and to report any drug-related activities to the police, stressing the need for collective efforts to eliminate drug use.
Key figures such as Additional Collector Revenue G Venkateswarlu, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Srinivasulu, Youth Sports Officer Sudheer Reddy, Yoga Secretary Suguna, and AYUSH Department representatives Dr. Manjushri, Dr. Omar Ali, and Dr. Jyoti were present, along with other district officials and students.
