Hyderabad: A new initiative is set to transform policing in Telangana. Thirty police stations in the state have been chosen for the Indian Police Foundation’s (IPF) internal reforms project. On Monday, the Telangana Police Department and IPF signed an agreement to start this important work.
The project will target 15 police stations in the Cyberabad Commissionerate and 15 in Sangareddy district. It will involve meetings with various groups, including complainants, victims, and police personnel. These discussions aim to highlight key issues and improve practices. The project will use successful methods from other states, like e-FIR and community policing, to create a comprehensive guide.
Dr. Jitender, the Director General of Police in Telangana, stressed the need for continuous reforms to boost police efficiency and public image. He stated that the project will introduce new practices and recommendations that will complement existing initiatives like Mee Seva, police station QR codes, and the T-Safe app for women’s safety.
Abhilasha Bisht, Director of the Telangana Police Academy, emphasized the project’s commitment to a modern and people-focused police system. She highlighted the importance of transparency, standardized procedures, and empathy in police work to meet public expectations for safety and fairness.
Om Prakash Singh, President and CEO of IPF, explained that the foundation’s goal is to improve policing through research and policy advocacy. IPF has already set up state chapters in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, with plans to expand to Telangana. The project will include structured training for police in selected stations and will be evaluated after a year. Successful strategies will be applied across all police stations in the state. Similar projects are also underway in Punjab and Tamil Nadu.
