Hyderabad: AIMIM President Urges Action Against Chinese Manja Vendors

AIMIM president and MP Asaduddin Owaisi has called on the Hyderabad City police to take stronger action against vendors selling Chinese manja, a banned synthetic thread used for flying kites. He emphasized that targeting the vendors is crucial to stopping the ongoing sale and use of this dangerous material.

Reacting to a recent post by the Hyderabad City Police on social media, Owaisi pointed out the risks posed by Chinese manja and highlighted past incidents where lives were lost due to its use. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he urged local police stations to take proactive steps. “This is not enough. The local PS [police station] should go and check and stop vendors who sell this Chinese manja as many people have lost their lives in the past year,” he wrote. He also tagged the Director General of Police (DGP) and the City Police Commissioner in his message.

Earlier, the Hyderabad City Police had posted a warning on their X handle stating that the sale and use of Chinese manja are illegal and punishable by law. Violators can face imprisonment of up to five years and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh. They also announced that, as part of a special drive, they had seized banned manja worth Rs 15 lakh.
