Hyderabad: The Bhuvan app, created by the National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC), has significantly boosted municipal revenue. In just 50 days, authorities increased revenue by Rs 404.35 lakhs by reclassifying properties. The next phase of this 100-day Action Plan begins on Monday.
5,258 properties were geo-tagged using the Bhuvan app. Of these, 4,536 properties were changed from ‘residential’ to ‘commercial,’ raising revenue by Rs 404.35 lakhs within the state municipalities.
The 100-day Action Plan by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department started on June 2. Its aim is to improve urban management, health, environmental practices, and citizen involvement in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). With Monday marking the halfway point, officials report significant achievements with the help of both officials and citizens.
Due to reclassification, property taxes were adjusted for 4,536 properties, now commercial, generating Rs 404.35 lakh in revenue. Additionally, 4,799 trade licenses were issued to commercial and mixed-use properties without them, generating an extra Rs 101.40 lakh.
There are other initiatives as well. Over 13,000 new self-help groups (SHGs) were formed, and SHG fairs were organized in ULBs. These fairs generated Rs 11.42 lakh, and street food festivals added another Rs 20.44 lakh. Social security schemes benefited over 25,000 street vendors and their families.
TK Sridevi, the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration, emphasized the Action Plan’s goals. These include improving waste management and sanitation, preparing for monsoons, promoting behavioral changes through IEC campaigns, enhancing urban greenery, and identifying unassessed properties for taxation.
The CDMA highlighted that over 36,900 citizens participated in a rally covering 250 km to kick off the 100-Day Action Plan. They reached over 18.37 lakh households to promote waste segregation, disbursed Rs 706.32 crore in loans to 5,626 SHGs, and planted 24,708 saplings with the help of 10,700 SHG women. The Plan, ending on September 10, aims to double its progress in the next 50 days.
