Hyderabad: N Ramchander Rao, the chief of the Telangana BJP, has accused the Congress of treating Backward Classes (BCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs) unfairly. He criticized the party for damaging democracy, especially during the Emergency period, and argued that its slogans like “Jai Bapu,” “Jai Bhim,” and “Jai Samvidhan” have lost their true meaning because of Congress’s actions.
Rao claimed that the Congress party misleads people with empty promises while pursuing a hidden agenda. By promoting the “Samajika Samara Bheri,” Congress is allegedly trying to deceive Telangana residents again. He questioned how a government that has failed to deliver on its promises in its first year and a half can justify its actions to the public.
He noted that Congress, while promoting “Jai Bapu,” has weakened Gandhi’s vision of village self-governance by not holding local elections and delaying Rs. 1,200 crore meant for village development. Similarly, by chanting “Jai Bhim,” Congress has reportedly taken tribal lands in areas like Lagacharla and Kondagal, used bulldozers on uncultivated lands, filed cases against ST farmers, and closed Gurukuls.
Rao argued that before Congress speaks about the Constitution with “Jai Samvidhan,” it must reflect on its own history, particularly the 1975 Emergency that undermined democracy. He criticized the upcoming visit of Mallikarjun Kharge to Telangana, questioning what more Congress intends to exploit.
He pointed out that Congress, which has made six guarantees and thirteen promises in Telangana, has not fully implemented any of them. He questioned if it is fair for Congress to harm BCs with a caste census and include Muslims in the BC quota. Rao concluded that Congress’s promises are only words, and the meeting is not for social justice but to hinder it. The people of Telangana, he believes, will not be fooled again.
