Hyderabad – Former Member of Legislative Council N. Ramachandra Rao revealed that nearly 500 awareness meetings have already been held across Telangana to promote the idea of One Nation-One Election. More events are planned in the coming weeks.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Rao said the goal of these programs is to build public support for holding simultaneous elections across the country. People from different professions — including politicians, lawyers, doctors, and engineers — are actively involved in spreading the message.
“These discussions are happening at the district level and are gaining momentum,” Rao said.
A major event is scheduled for Sunday in Hyderabad, where Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and G. Kishan Reddy, along with BJP National General Secretary Sunil Bansal, Anil K. Antony, and other national leaders, will address professionals on the topic.
Rao explained that the concept of One Nation-One Election isn’t new. From 1952 to 1967, Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections were held at the same time. He blamed the Congress party for breaking this system by misusing the powers of the Governor, which caused frequent elections and disrupted governance.
He argued that frequent polls force the government to follow the Model Code of Conduct too often, which stalls development work for months.
Referring to the Ram Nath Kovind Committee report, Rao mentioned that the panel recommended completing local body elections within 100 days. This would give the government nearly four full years to focus on development without political distractions.
“Once elections are over, the focus must shift entirely to development,” Rao stressed.
He also raised concerns about security arrangements at Gandhi Bhavan, questioning why there was such heavy presence near the BJP state office. He accused the Congress of trying to create tension and warned Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to control his party workers and avoid provoking conflict.
“We caution the Congress to stop these tactics now,” Rao warned.
