Nagarkurnool – To mark International Nurses Day on May 12, a blood donation camp took place on Friday at the Government District Hospital in Nagarkurnool. The event was held by the Telangana Nursing Officers Association and launched by the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. R. Raghu.

Dr. Raghu commended Dr. C. Hanumanth Rao, aged 59, for his continued commitment to blood donation. He highlighted the health benefits of donating blood, explaining that it helps refresh the body and supports the growth of new blood cells.

With tensions rising between India and Pakistan, Dr. Raghu said the Telangana state government had encouraged hospitals to collect and store more blood. This stock may be sent to support the armed forces if needed.

He also called on the public to donate blood regularly at the hospital’s Blood Bank. Dr. Raghu praised the nursing officers for leading by example and donating blood themselves. He stressed that nurses are not only caregivers but also lifesavers through their active role in donation drives.

The hospital currently offers free blood to pregnant women and patients undergoing orthopedic or general surgeries. It keeps a steady supply of both common and rare blood types. Blood collected here is also sent to storage centers in Kalwakurthy and Achampet.

Janakidevi, President of the District Nursing Association, along with Secretary M. Anand and Zone 7 President Manmohan Reddy, shared that this blood drive was part of a larger, statewide initiative. During the camp, 40 nursing officers and 10 other volunteers stepped forward to donate.

Doctors and staff who actively participated included Dr. Hanumanth Rao, Dr. Prashanth, Dr. Azeem, Blood Bank Medical Officer Dr. A. Rohith, and Dr. Anita.

The event showcased the dedication of healthcare workers and encouraged the community to support life-saving causes like blood donation.
