Hyderabad: The Opposition parties, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), walked out of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting of the Legislative Assembly. Their protest was against the government’s lack of clarity on the duration of the session and its decision to introduce bills without discussing the business agenda.
The meeting was chaired by Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and attended by several prominent leaders, including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister M Bhatti Vikramarka, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, and Chief Whip Adluri Laxman Kumar. Other attendees included T Harish Rao and V Prashanth Reddy from BRS, Payal Shankar from BJP, and Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao from the Communist Party of India.
The BRS and AIMIM strongly emphasized the need for a longer session, suggesting it should last at least 15 days. They argued that several pressing public issues, such as the concerns of Lagacharla farmers, needed to be addressed. However, the government reportedly planned for the session to last only three to four days.
During the meeting, when Chief Minister Revanth Reddy mentioned that the BAC could only make recommendations, BRS leader Harish Rao countered by asserting that the BAC’s role was to decide the business for the session. This disagreement led to both the BRS and AIMIM staging a walkout in protest.
After the meeting, Harish Rao spoke to the media, reiterating their demand for a 15-day session. He criticized the government for treating the BAC like a casual “biscuit and chai” meeting and objected to its decision to introduce bills without first discussing the session’s agenda in the BAC.
