Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader B Vinod Kumar has asked the University of Hyderabad to reserve 25 percent of its admissions for students from Telangana.
On Wednesday, Vinod Kumar met with the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof BJ Rao, and Registrar Devesh Nigam. He officially requested that the university introduce domicile reservations for local students in various courses.
He explained that the University of Hyderabad is the only Central University created under Article 371-E of the Indian Constitution. This article was part of the Six-Point Formula, introduced after the 1969 Telangana movement. That movement had seen the tragic loss of around 360 students and youth fighting for better opportunities in the region.
Vinod Kumar also noted that other Central Universities like the Central University of Karnataka and Pondicherry University already have similar domicile-based reservations. He said there is no legal or policy issue preventing Hyderabad University from doing the same.
He pointed out that many students in Telangana come from poor and marginalized backgrounds and are the first in their families to pursue higher education. These students, he said, need better access to central universities like HCU.
Vinod Kumar was joined by BRSV President Gellu Srinivas Yadav, student leaders Vishal, HCU Incharge Abhinesh, AIOBCSA President G Kiran Kumar, and Murali Yadav during the meeting.
