Hyderabad: On Monday, BRS leaders tried to speak with the Telangana Assembly Speaker about disqualifying some MLAs, but the Speaker was unavailable.
A group of BRS MLAs visited the Assembly to request the removal of their colleagues who switched to the Congress party. This action follows recent Supreme Court directives. Since the Speaker was absent, BRS leaders staged a protest near the Gandhi Statue at the Assembly, demanding the disqualification of the defected MLAs.
MLA Gangula Kamalakar told reporters that the party’s working president had arranged a meeting with Speaker G Prasad Kumar at 11 am. “When we arrived, the main entrance was locked. Despite informing the Speaker in advance, he was not present,” Kamalakar stated.
The BRS leaders chanted slogans, urging the Speaker to act according to the Supreme Court orders and make a swift decision. Kamalakar warned that public faith in democracy would diminish if the Speaker delayed the decision on disqualification.
Kamalakar clarified that they were not agitating but respectfully asking the Speaker to consider their plea. They submitted their request to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue and vowed to continue their protest until all ten MLAs are disqualified.
