Hyderabad: Leaders from the BRS announced a major gathering called ‘BC Garjana’ set for August 14 in Karimnagar. The event aims to urge the Congress government to fulfill its promise of providing 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs).
The plan developed during a meeting at Telangana Bhavan with past ministers and BC leaders. MLC Madhusudan Chari and MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav shared that the event would take place at Jyotiba Phule Ground at 3 pm.
BRS leaders insist the Congress should hold local elections only after ensuring the 42% reservation for BCs. They warned of demonstrating BC power against Congress. They dismissed a Congress protest in Delhi, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, as a “drama” to mislead the BC community. They questioned the absence of senior Congress figures like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi at the protest.
BRS leaders challenged Congress to prove its commitment to BCs by appointing BC ministers and assigning them key departments like Revenue and Home. They also want BCs to receive 42% of corporation chairmanships. They criticized the Congress for rushing a flawed caste census and celebrating as if 42% reservation was already secured.
Srinivas Yadav mentioned the party was open to joining an all-party delegation to Delhi, but criticized the way invitations were handled. He referenced Tamil Nadu’s approach, where Jayalalitha successfully secured BC reservation by adding it to the IXth schedule after gaining support from all parties and the Prime Minister. He urged the Congress government in Telangana to follow this example.
