Hyderabad: The BRS party is now turning to the Supreme Court to seek the disqualification of Legislative Council members who have switched to the Congress party.
Party leaders have traveled to New Delhi to file their petition. This move follows the Supreme Court’s recent order for the Assembly Speaker to act against MLAs who changed parties within three months. Now, the BRS is targeting defecting MLCs. The BRS working president plans to personally file a case in the Supreme Court. Sources say he is already in Delhi and will submit the petition to request the Legislative Council Chairman to disqualify these MLCs. A legal team from the BRS is also in Delhi to assist.
KTR argues in the petition that when public officials switch parties, they should resign and seek re-election. However, several BRS MLCs who joined Congress did not resign, prompting the party to pursue legal action. Six BRS MLCs have joined Congress since its rise to power. These MLCs include Dande Vital, Bhanuprasad Rao, MS Prabhakar, Boggaparu Dayanand, and Egge Mallesham.
