A large protest rally took place in Gadwal on Thursday, led by Kuruvu Pallayya, a key figure from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi (BRSV). Held at Krishnaveni Junction, the protest demanded the release of overdue fee reimbursements and scholarships from the Telangana state government.

Kuruvu Pallayya addressed the crowd, expressing frustration over the Revanth Reddy administration. Despite 1.5 years in power, they have not cleared student welfare dues like scholarships and fee reimbursements. He accused the government of neglecting underprivileged students, hindering their educational progress.

Students from both government and private schools face financial pressure, forced to pay fees upfront due to the government’s inaction. Pallayya criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration for increasing education sector corporatization, worsening conditions.

He pointed out broken promises by the Congress government, such as:

  • Creating 2 lakh jobs in 100 days
  • Allocating 15% of the budget to education
  • Providing direct financial aid to SC/ST students: ₹10,000 for SSC pass, ₹15,000 for Intermediate, ₹25,000 for Degree, ₹1 lakh for PG, and ₹5 lakhs for PhD

These promises, Pallayya said, were false, disappointing the youth.

Students from poorer backgrounds struggle without fee reimbursements and scholarships, unable to retrieve original certificates like Transfer Certificates (TCs), leading many to drop out despite good entrance exam scores.

Pallayya criticized the government for not increasing hostel mess charges and allowances, causing students to suffer from poor food quality and overcrowded living conditions.

He condemned the government’s unfair treatment of the 1,023 Gurukul institutions, which serve disadvantaged communities. He demanded:

  • Cancellation of GO No. 29 affecting Group-1 recruitments
  • Implementation of GO No. 55 for job placements
  • Better infrastructure and food quality in Gurukul schools

Recent incidents highlighted the issue: food poisoning hospitalized students at Uyyalawada Gurukul, and protests erupted at Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Gurukul over poor food and facilities. Pallayya accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of ignoring Gurukul institutions due to political rivalry with former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

The protest ended with a warning: if the government does not release the pending funds, BRSV plans to escalate their actions and disrupt the Secretariat.

Several student leaders, including Maz, Madhav, Chinna, Jahangir, and Afrid, joined the rally alongside hundreds of students from different institutions. The protest reflects rising frustration among students in Telangana over delayed welfare schemes and unfulfilled promises. With financial challenges affecting students, tensions may rise if the government doesn’t act quickly.
