Hyderabad – A recent incident involving an IAS officer has prompted the Telangana government to remind officials about proper conduct in public.
During the launch of the Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam project on May 19, an IAS officer was seen trying to touch the feet of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. This act drew criticism and led to swift action from senior officials.
Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao responded by issuing firm guidelines to all bureaucrats. He emphasized that officers must maintain their dignity and act with professionalism during public events. The new instructions stress that all All India Services (AIS) officers must avoid actions and gestures that do not align with their role as public servants.
In a memo from the General Administration Department (GAD), officials were reminded of Rule 3(1) of the AIS (Conduct) Rules, 1968. This rule clearly states that every officer must always show absolute integrity and devotion to duty. They must not engage in behavior that could damage their reputation or that of the service.
The memo also warned that breaking these rules could lead to disciplinary action. Officials were told that such acts not only harm their personal image but also shake public confidence in their ability to serve.
Separate instructions were also sent to other government employees. Authorities made it clear that public servants are expected to represent the government with respect, discipline, and professionalism at all times.
The government’s move aims to ensure that all officials uphold the values of the civil service and maintain the public’s trust.
