Hyderabad: The Chilkur Balaji Temple will hold its annual Brahmotsavam festival from April 7 to April 14. The celebration will begin on the evening of April 7 with a ceremony called Ankurarpanam, where seeds are sown to symbolize growth and prosperity.
The main event, called Dwajarohanam, will take place on April 8. During this ceremony, a Garuda flag is raised to officially start the festival. Other important events include the Kalyanotsavam (a divine wedding ceremony) on April 10, the Rathotsavam (chariot procession) on April 12, the Ashwavahanam (horse vehicle procession) on April 13, and the Chakrasnanam (ritual bath of the Sudarshana Chakra) on April 14.
Throughout the week, the temple will host daily rituals, including homas (fire ceremonies) and processions around the temple streets. Many devotees are expected to attend these religious activities.
Temple authorities announced that Garuda Prasadam, which is usually given to women hoping to have children, will not be distributed in April 2025. However, starting in May 2025, this special prasadam will be given out every Friday throughout the year. This follows a large turnout in April 2024, when thousands of women came to the temple seeking blessings.
Temple Head Priest CS Rangarajan shared that many women who received the prasadam last year were later blessed with children. Those who wish to receive the prasadam in 2025 should visit the temple by 9 am on any Friday starting in May.
On the final day of the festival, devotees will take part in the ritual bathing of the Sudarshana Chakra in a nearby water body. The event will end with the lowering of the Garuda flag, marking the conclusion of the Brahmotsavam.
