Hyderabad is focusing on its public health systems after recent rains. A special cleaning initiative started on July 29 in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area is now actively running.
The program has been completed in 30 wards and aims to cover 150 wards by August 8. Led by Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha, and GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, the city is moving towards becoming a ‘Healthy and Clean Hyderabad.’
Sanitation workers are busy removing solid waste, debris from construction, and green waste. They also clear excess waste from engineering and urban biodiversity projects, along with silt from rain. This cleanup happens daily from 5:30 am to 1:30 pm, right after regular sanitation.
Commissioner RV Karnan supervises the Monsoon Special Drive closely, with surprise inspections each morning.
Officials like Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Health Officers, SWM Engineers, Circle Managers, and Entomologists are working on the ground. They check progress in zones like LB Nagar, Charminar, Kukatpally, and Khairatabad, gathering data on ongoing efforts.
To stop mosquito breeding, officials visit homes, handing out pamphlets on preventing diseases like dengue and malaria. They emphasize the importance of public cooperation for a cleaner Hyderabad. Residents are urged to help sanitation teams and avoid littering, as a clean environment is key to good health.
In Vittalwadi Colony, Himayat Nagar, GHMC launched a special cleanup on Wednesday. The Corporator and Deputy Commissioner led this drive, involving the public and removing garbage and silt from floods.
The initiative has greatly improved the sanitation situation, chaotic due to rain. Teams go door to door, advising residents on how to prevent mosquito bites and dengue, distributing educational pamphlets to the community.
