Bullet train corridor approved; new airports planned for Warangal, Adilabad, Kothagudem, Ramagundam

HyderabadChief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced the development of a 360-kilometer Regional Ring Road (RRR) outside the Outer Ring Road, positioning it as another “garland” around Hyderabad as part of the ambitious Telangana Rising 2047 vision.

The CM announced that the 360-km Regional Ring Road outside the Outer Ring Road has received approval from the central government, and it will become the second urban region for the city.

Addressing the WEF CII conference, the CM said: “Hyderabad has a 160-km-long Outer Ring Road. Now I am building a Regional Ring Road, of nearly 360 km to connect all my major towns and villages. I am also planning to build a Regional Ring Railway, around the Ring Road”.

The state is being divided into three development zones. The Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) inside the ORR will focus on service sector. The proposed Regional Ring Road, covering 360 km, will be developed as a Peri Urban Region Economic (PURE) zone for manufacturing. Areas beyond the RRR will focus on rural economy and agriculture.

The core urban zone inside the Outer Ring Road will focus on knowledge, IT, and services. The semi-urban belt between the ORR and the 360-km Regional Ring Road will serve as a manufacturing hub. Areas beyond the RRR will be developed around rural economy and agriculture.

The CM announced that permission has been obtained for laying a bullet train corridor along with greenfield highways, significantly enhancing connectivity between major cities.

Greenfield Highway Bullet Train and connectivity to Machilipatnam will be developed in the region between ORR and RRR.

CM Revanth Reddy emphasized the need to enhance connectivity between Hyderabad and Bengaluru, two major technology and economic hubs in South India.

New Airports Planned

The government is bringing airports to four major cities across Telangana:

  • Warangal
  • Adilabad
  • Kothagudem
  • Ramagundam

These airports will improve regional connectivity and boost economic development in tier-2 cities.

Regional Ring Railway

“Thus, our people will have 2 circles of roads and 2 circles of railway. We will also have Radial Roads connecting these Rings,” the CM said.

Radial Roads Network

The government announced 11 new radial roads linking the RRR to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), creating a comprehensive connectivity network.

The radial roads will be 100 meters wide with six lanes. This will help traffic move smoothly.

Bharat Future City Integration

The first phase of Bharat Future City will span more than 30,000 acres with nine zones, including an AI city, a health cluster, and an education hub, all linked to the international airport.

Manufacturing Hub Vision

The region between the Outer Ring Road and RRR will be developed into a major manufacturing hub. The region will house industries in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, life sciences, aerospace, defence, electric vehicles, and solar energy.

Infrastructure Investment

The Chief Minister detailed plans for a 300–360-km Regional Ring Road, complemented by a regional ring rail, industrial corridors, greenfield highways, and port-connectivity projects.

Dry Port and Port Connectivity

The state government is building a major dry port to become a supply chain and warehousing hub. “We are also connecting this dry port to their closest port, called Machilipatnam port, with a dedicated Highway and a dedicated Railway link”.

Metro Expansion

The government is building new lines for Hyderabad Metro, to over 100 km, more than double the existing capacity of 70 km, to serve 15 lakh passengers daily.

$3 Trillion Economy Goal

CM Revanth Reddy said the goal was to transform Telangana into a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047.

Pollution-Free Hyderabad

CM Revanth Reddy expressed concern over increasing pollution in metropolitan cities and emphasized that fast-growing Greater Hyderabad will be developed as a pollution-free city. The government plans to convert the Core Urban Region into a service sector and shift pollution-emitting industries from the core region.

The comprehensive infrastructure vision positions Telangana as one of India’s most futuristic growth centers, with the 360-km Regional Ring Road serving as the backbone for organized urban expansion and industrial development.
