A powerful low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is bringing freezing temperatures and unusual weather patterns to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Weather officials warn residents to prepare for even colder days ahead.
The India Meteorological Department has issued weather warnings as temperatures crash across both states. Many locations now face bone-chilling conditions that residents haven’t experienced in years.
Telangana bears the brunt of this cold snap. Several districts recorded temperatures below 8 degrees Celsius, creating dangerous conditions for local communities. The weather department expects temperatures to fall another 4 to 5 degrees below normal levels within 48 hours.
Asifabad and parts of Sangareddy and Komurambheem districts hit rock bottom at just 7 degrees Celsius. Other badly affected areas include Vikarabad, Rangareddy, Sircilla, Kamareddy, Siddipet, and Nizamabad, all recording 8 degrees.
Bhupalpally registered 9 degrees, while Hanumakonda and Warangal saw slightly warmer conditions at 12 degrees. Weather experts issued yellow alerts for Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Nirmal, and Adilabad districts.
The cold wave will intensify across eight major districts in coming days. Adilabad, Komurambheem, Mancherial, Nirmal, Medak, Nizamabad, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad face the worst conditions.
Andhra Pradesh also struggles with plummeting temperatures. Minumuluru in Alluri district recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 6 degrees Celsius. Araku saw 7.3 degrees, while Paderu registered 8 degrees amid heavy fog that reduced visibility.
Health officials express growing concern about public safety as winter conditions worsen. Residents should take extra precautions to protect themselves from the severe cold affecting both Telugu states.
