A complaint has been filed against two senior officers, D.S. Chowhan and Hari Chandana, for allegedly making false political statements at a government event in Telangana. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) claims these officers violated conduct rules by spreading misleading information during a ration card distribution program on August 1, 2025, in Hyderabad.
According to the complaint, Chowhan and Hari Chandana wrongly stated that the BRS government had not issued any ration cards in the last ten years. The BRS argues this is untrue, citing official data that shows more than 6.47 lakh ration cards were issued during their governance. The complaint also criticizes the officers for spreading misinformation in the presence of local politicians, including a minister and mayor.
It further raises concerns over the ration card distribution process, suggesting that bribes ranging from ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 are being demanded for card issuance. The complaint calls for a detailed investigation by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau into these claims, accusing the officers of creating a lack of transparency.
The complaint outlines potential violations of conduct rules and laws like the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. It demands immediate disciplinary action, the filing of criminal cases for the officers’ alleged false statements, and a public apology to correct the misinformation.
This situation raises concerns about the neutrality and integrity expected from civil servants in India. The BRS urges a thorough investigation to uphold the credibility of public institutions and safeguard democratic values. The complaint has also been sent to the Department of Personnel & Training for consideration in the officers’ performance reviews.
