There is tension on the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) campus after a recent incident of attempted molestation of a female student. This incident brings to mind a similar one that happened years ago on the University of Hyderabad campus. However, UoH took steps to improve security and prevent such incidents. In contrast, EFLU students and faculty are unhappy with how the administration handled the issue.

A student, speaking anonymously, expressed that there is a sense of fear among students. The EFLU campus is smaller compared to neighboring Osmania University or UoH, yet there is concern about the safety of girls on campus. When students raised their voices against crimes like molestation and demanded justice, they felt that the administration’s reactions were unreasonable and aimed at silencing them rather than addressing the issue.

The EFLU administration is not involving students and faculty in decision-making and is making unilateral decisions. This has led to a feeling of betrayal by “our own university” when it comes to incidents of crime against girls on campus. Even when students and faculty brought their concerns to the attention of the authorities, they felt ignored.

The students believe that the campus is not safe for girls due to the attitude and behavior of the administration towards those pursuing foreign language courses at the exclusive and prestigious university for foreign languages in the country.
