Hyderabad – The Congress party has called on Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy to advocate for Telangana’s interests following the Central Government’s recent decision to invest over ₹11,829 crore in strengthening five Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Chanagani Dayakar, the official spokesperson for the Congress in Telangana, submitted a formal request to the Minister. He urged Reddy to push for more IIT seats for Telangana and to lobby for the creation of new IITs in the state.
While welcoming the Centre’s financial commitment of ₹11,828.79 crore towards enhancing existing IITs, Dayakar emphasized the importance of expanding educational infrastructure in Telangana. He pointed out that this move would boost the status of IIT Hyderabad and open more doors for aspiring students.
“Telangana is rapidly growing in the fields of technology, education, and healthcare,” Dayakar stated. “Every year, over 10 lakh students seek admission to degree and engineering programs in the state. Additionally, two lakh students from Telangana appear for the JEE Mains annually.”
He highlighted Hyderabad’s strong educational ecosystem and growing interest among students and parents in top-tier institutions. He added that the city is well-positioned to support the establishment of new IITs and IIMs, given its favorable environment for education, innovation, and industry.
The Congress party requested the Union Minister to take this issue seriously and promote Telangana as a hub for premier institutions, ensuring more educational opportunities for the youth.
