Hyderabad: On Thursday, the Telangana High Court reviewed petitions from BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao and senior leader T Harish Rao. They challenged the report by the Kaleshwaram Commission. The Court questioned why the government released the report publicly before discussing it in the Assembly.

The case was heard by a bench led by Chief Justice A K Singh. Aryama Sundaram, a senior Supreme Court advocate, represented the petitioners. He argued that the government order appointing the Justice P C Ghose Commission should be canceled. He also wanted the Commission’s report canceled because the petitioners did not receive notices as required by Sections 8B and 8C. The advocate claimed the report was shared with the media with bad intentions, without giving a copy to the BRS leaders.

The petitioners argued that the Commission was appointed for political reasons and that the report was made against rules. They sought to stop any action based on the report. They claimed the damage to a pillar of the Medigadda barrage was due to unusual rains, not engineering mistakes. Aryama Sundaram suggested the report aimed to harm his clients politically. He noted the government gave a PowerPoint presentation and shared a 60-page summary with the media, but not with K Chandrashekar Rao and T Harish Rao, who are Assembly members.

The Court asked Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy why the report was public when intended for Assembly discussion. The Advocate General explained that notices were served properly by Section 8B. He said the report wasn’t public and would be discussed post-presentation in the Assembly. He asked for time to file a counter-affidavit, explaining the 60-page report was to help the public understand the findings. The Court inquired when the discussion would occur and if action would be taken before it. The Advocate General promised to provide an answer by Friday or Monday, and the hearing was adjourned to Friday.
