The Communist Party of India (CPI) is working to secure the Warangal Lok Sabha (SC reserved) seat for the upcoming elections. The CPI leaders, D Raja and Rama Krushna Panda, met with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi to discuss this matter.
They asked Kharge to allocate the Warangal Lok Sabha seat to the CPI as part of the INDIA pact. Kharge mentioned that a decision will be made after consulting with Rahul Gandhi, who is currently on Bhara Jodo Yatra. The CPI is eager to contest in the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency because of its strong presence in the area through activities like Bhu Poratam (struggle for land) and its affiliated unions in Singareni, LIC, and Banking sectors.
The CPI has chosen 55-year-old B R Lenin, a senior journalist with nearly thirty years of experience, as their candidate for the seat. Lenin follows in the footsteps of his father, B R Bhagawan Das, a respected Communist leader who advocated for trade unions in the region.
Takkalapally Srinivas Rao, a CPI State secretariat member, believes that Lenin’s background will give him an edge over other candidates from the BRS and BJP. Lenin has been actively involved in various movements, especially during the Telangana Statehood Movement, and has helped those in need during times of crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.
