Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Central Crime Station (CCS) has made a big breakthrough by recovering 827 stolen and lost mobile phones in just 45 days. These phones are worth about Rs 2 crore. This success is part of their eighth recovery operation, and they returned the phones to the owners at the Cyberabad Commissionerate. The Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal played a key role in this process.
DCP Crimes A Muthyam Reddy shared that in the past 45 days, they recovered 827 phones. The recovery details by zone are: Madhapur CCS – 180, Balanagar CCS – 174, Medchal CCS – 176, Rajendranagar CCS – 153, and Shamshabad CCS – 144.
The DCP emphasized the importance of reporting lost phones quickly, either at a police station or through the CEIR portal. Mobile phones often have personal and sentimental data, so fast recovery is crucial. The CEIR portal helps prevent misuse and speeds up recoveries.
So far, the Cyberabad Police have run eight phases of these operations, recovering a total of 6,233 phones and returning them to their owners.
DCP Muthyam Reddy encouraged people to use the CEIR portal, which is available across India. He also warned against cyber fraud and advised against clicking unknown links. For cybercrime issues, he recommended calling the national helpline at 1930 or filing a complaint online at cybercrime.gov.in.
One person shared their story: “I lost my phone at my relative’s house. It was a wedding gift from my son, so it was very special. I reported it at the Balanagar Police Station. A month later, the police found it, and I got it back at the CP office. I am very thankful to the Cyberabad Police.” Another person, working in Gachibowli, said: “I lost my phone at a vegetable market. I reported it, and soon after, I was told my phone was found and would be returned. I appreciate the quick response from the Cyberabad Police.”
The DCP praised the excellent work of the officers from the CCS, IT Cell, Social Media, and other departments for their dedication in recovering the phones.
