The Telangana High Court’s single bench of Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy has issued notices to Danam Nagendar, MLA, and other respondents. They have been directed to respond by April 18. Pabhathi Vijaya Reddy, the petitioner, had contested the Assembly Elections in 2023 on a Congress ticket and lost to Nagendar, who won by a majority of 22,010 votes.
The petitioner filed an election petition seeking a direction to declare Nagendar’s election invalid. This was based on the grounds that he had won from the Khairatabad Assembly constituency by adopting corrupt practices. The petitioner claimed that Nagendar had suppressed crucial information about assets in his wife’s name and used corrupt practices during elections.
The court was informed that Nagendar had failed to disclose certain information in his nomination papers and election affidavit. There were also allegations of his polling agents influencing voters by distributing money. The hearing in this case has been adjourned to April 18.
In another case, the High Court issued a notice to Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao in a poll petition. The petitioner, Nandu Lal Agarwal, sought to declare Rao’s election as null and void. The court was informed that Rao had filed an invalid election affidavit, which violated election rules.
The hearing for this case has also been adjourned to April 16. Additionally, the High Court issued a notice to Yennam Srinivas Reddy, Mahbubnagar MLA, in a poll petition. The petitioner, V Srinivas Goud, challenged Reddy’s election and sought to declare it invalid.
The court was informed that Reddy had filed a defective affidavit before the election officials. The hearing for this case has been adjourned to April 19.
