The hearing for BRS MLC Kavitha’s petition for default bail in the Delhi Liquor CBI case has been postponed again. The proceedings took place at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday. The court has now rescheduled the hearing to August 5.

On July 8, Kavitha’s legal team submitted a petition claiming that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to file a complete charge sheet within the required 60-day period. Kavitha’s lawyers argued that her arrest on April 11, 2024, was unlawful because the CBI submitted an incomplete charge sheet on June 7.

The court noticed issues in the CBI’s charge sheet, raising questions about its accuracy. According to the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 167(2), Kavitha is eligible for default bail because the charges carry a punishment of seven years, which allows for a maximum custody period of 60 days. By July 6, Kavitha had already spent 86 days in custody, prompting her legal team to file for default bail.

Despite earlier discussions on the matter, the court has scheduled the next hearing for August 5. The decision on Kavitha’s bail petition remains pending.
