The police in Hyderabad are taking steps to prevent foreign job-seekers from being cheated, according to DGP Anjani Kumar. A meeting was held to discuss the issue of ‘Safety and Regularisation of Migrants and Employees Going Abroad – Actions to be taken by the Police Department’, which was attended by officials from the Ministry of External Affairs. The DGP said that while India is the top country for sending experts in various professions abroad, Telangana is also playing a vital role. However, people from economically disadvantaged and illiterate backgrounds who go to Gulf countries for jobs are often cheated by agents. The police department has reported three recent cases of fraud in Kuwait and is keeping a strict watch on unrecognised foreign recruitment agencies, illegal recruitment agencies, and tourist agencies across the state.
