Hyderabad — The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out a major raid on Thursday targeting YS Reddy, Deputy Director of Town Planning at the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVMC).

The ED team conducted searches at 13 locations across Nalasopara, Vasai, Virar near Mumbai, and Hyderabad. These raids are part of an ongoing money laundering investigation linked to illegal construction activities.

During the operation, the agency seized around ₹8.6 crore in cash and ₹23.25 crore worth of diamond-studded jewellery and gold bullion from Reddy’s residence.

This isn’t the first time YS Reddy has faced legal trouble. In April 2016, the Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested him for allegedly trying to bribe a Shiv Sena corporator with ₹25 lakh to withdraw court cases filed against him.

The current ED probe is based on several FIRs filed by the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar Police Commissionerate. These complaints highlight widespread illegal construction of residential and commercial buildings on both public and private land under VVMC’s control since 2009.

According to the ED, documents recovered during the raids reveal a large-scale scam involving builders, local musclemen, and VVMC officials. The findings suggest deep-rooted corruption and unauthorized development across the Vasai-Virar region.
