Hyderabad: A surprise raid by the Shamshabad Excise Department uncovered a large stash of illegal liquor at a private event in Moinabad, near Hyderabad. Officials seized non-duty paid alcohol worth ₹4 lakh during the operation.

The raid took place at a farmhouse where a family was celebrating a function for their children. Guests were served expensive foreign liquor, including bottles brought in from Delhi and Goa, without any official permission.

The seized stock included 50 bottles of Black Label whisky from Delhi, four bottles from Goa, three legally purchased bottles from Telangana, and 12 beer bottles. Officials said the liquor was not approved for sale or use in Telangana, making its possession and distribution illegal under state excise laws.

Authorities confirmed that the hosts did not obtain the required license to serve alcohol at the event. As per rules, anyone serving liquor at private or commercial venues must first get clearance from the Excise Department.

Excise CI Praveen Kumar led the raid. A case has been registered against the event organisers and the farmhouse owner. Shamshabad Excise Superintendent Krishnapriya confirmed the action and warned that more inspections would follow to prevent illegal liquor distribution.

Telangana Excise Enforcement Director Shahnawaz Khan praised the team for acting quickly and shutting down the unlicensed operation. The department is now investigating where the liquor came from and how it was brought into the state without proper documentation.
