Massive Fire Breaks Out at Yadadri Power Plant in Nalgonda
A major fire erupted early Monday morning at the Yadadri Power Plant in Veerlapalem village, located in Damaracherla mandal, Nalgonda district.
The fire started around 1 a.m. in Unit-1 of the plant. A leak in the unit’s boiler caused oil to drip down, just as welding work was happening nearby. The hot sparks from the welding ignited the oil, quickly turning into a large blaze that spread through the unit.
Firefighters responded promptly and worked hard to bring the flames under control. Their quick action helped prevent a much bigger disaster.
Due to the fire, the plant was forced to stop producing 600 megawatts of power. The incident happened while the unit was being prepared for a trial run.
Local MLA BLR visited the site to assess the damage. After learning that a gas cut fault triggered the incident, he ordered officials to begin immediate repairs.
Plant officials confirmed that the damaged boiler would be fixed and operational within 24 hours. They also assured that the plant’s other three units are running safely.
This is not the first accident at the Yadadri Power Plant. On February 14, another mishap occurred in Unit-2. While generating 800 megawatts of electricity, a blockage in the Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) caused the boiler to shut down.
During repair efforts, a sudden fall of hot ash injured six workers seriously.
Authorities are now focusing on improving safety measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
