Hyderabad is getting ready for the monsoon. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) are taking steps to prevent urban flooding. They have set up emergency teams across the city.
GHMC is deploying 130 monsoon emergency teams with 12 people in each. Additionally, HYDRAA is sending 51 Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams, each consisting of 15 members, to assist.
During a meeting on Wednesday at the Municipal Secretary’s office, officials emphasized minimizing public inconvenience during the rainy season. Both HYDRAA and GHMC aim to reduce flood risks.
Teams from GHMC and HYDRAA will work under HYDRAA’s supervision to respond quickly to waterlogging. They will be stationed in flood-prone areas and will act immediately when water stagnation occurs, especially in residential zones, to help maintain traffic flow and prevent flooding.
GHMC will focus on clearing silt and debris from sewers, while HYDRAA will provide logistical support and manpower. HYDRAA will oversee the operations of the monsoon emergency teams.
