Hyderabad is getting ready for the rainy season with a special cleanup effort led by the GHMC. This plan aims to reduce waterlogging and keep the city clean by collecting and moving garbage from all areas.

On Monday, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan shared that the project is designed to stop the spread of diseases during the monsoon. He visited the cleanup work near Nallakunta Fever Hospital to observe the progress.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of community and political leader support to ensure the success of this effort. The Additional Commissioner was instructed to spread sanitation workers throughout different locations instead of focusing them in one place.

GHMC is clearing long-neglected garbage spots in many areas. They are using earth movers, transport vehicles, and lots of manpower for this extensive cleaning operation. The focus is on flood-prone areas, emphasizing garbage removal, drain cleaning, and fogging to manage diseases spread by pests.

Additionally, GHMC has started a program where special vehicles collect scrap and unwanted items from homes. They aim to prevent waste from being dumped in drains, which often causes blockages.

These vehicles will pick up old furniture, clothes, and other unused items from households. The Solid Waste Management officer noted that many people throw such items in open spaces or canals, which creates unsanitary conditions and blocks water flow during the rainy season, leading to serious flooding.
