Bhadrachalam: The Godavari river at Bhadrachalam is currently stable after a brief rise in water levels on Sunday morning. However, the first-level flood warning is still active for the third day. Officials continue to watch the water levels closely.
On Saturday night, the water was at 47.5 feet and stayed there for about nine hours. By 5 am on Sunday, it rose slightly to 47.6 feet and then to 47.7 feet by 6 am. At 8:54 am, the river reached 48 feet, triggering a second flood alert from Sub-Collector Mrunal Shresth.
During this time, 11,44,645 cusecs of water flowed downstream from Bhadrachalam.
By 1:05 pm, the water level went down to 47.9 feet and stayed stable, leading officials to cancel the second warning. The first flood warning, given three days ago when the water hit 43 feet, is still in effect. District Collector Jitesh V Patil and Sub-Collector Shresth are keeping a close watch on the situation.
Local officials are on high alert, especially in areas prone to flooding. The Godavari bathing ghats are off-limits as they are underwater.
Floodwaters have also reached parts of Dummugudem mandal, particularly in the Seethamma Naracheeralu area.
Traffic is affected on the Turubaka Veed diversion road and the Bairagula Padu-Sunnambatti stretch due to road flooding. Emergency teams are on standby, and authorities are advising residents in flood-prone areas to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel. Preparedness measures are in place in case the water level rises again.
The administration warns that the situation could change quickly if there is more rainfall upstream.
