G Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Coal and Mines, announced that the Central Government will establish four new Central Universities in Telangana. This decision aims to boost the state’s education infrastructure, especially in remote areas.
The universities will be located in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, Jagityala Rural Mandal, and Nagavaram Sivar in Wanaparthi district. These will join the 35 existing Central Universities, enhancing education in these regions.
Reddy thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for supporting Telangana’s educational growth.
Over the past year, the Centre has heavily invested in Telangana’s education sector. A significant initiative is the approval of 794 PM-Shri Schools in the state, with a budget of Rs 400 crore. These schools focus on providing quality secondary education. Telangana received the highest funding for these schools among all states, showing the Centre’s dedication to the region.
Additionally, Rs 2,000 crore has been allocated to Telangana under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan over two years. This scheme supports education through infrastructure, teacher training, and digital tools. To enhance higher education in tribal areas, the Centre has set up the Sammakka and Sarakka Central Tribal Universities in Mulugu district with a Rs 1,000 crore budget. These universities focus on tribal education and research.
These efforts align with the Modi government’s goal of inclusive education. The new universities and schools aim to improve academic access and promote socio-economic growth in tribal and underdeveloped areas, Reddy stated.
The Union Minister stressed the Centre’s commitment to making Telangana a center of educational excellence and called on state authorities to cooperate in these projects. The government prioritizes education as a key element of national progress.
