Hyderabad: The State government has promised to address the concerns of rice millers soon. A Cabinet Sub-Committee will discuss the problems they are facing and find solutions.
The Rice Millers Association has given a detailed report to the sub-committee. In the report, they mentioned that the availability of paddy has decreased significantly. This year, the amount of paddy being milled has dropped to 14 percent. Large mills are struggling, with operations going down by 55 to 60 percent because of the reduced paddy supply.
The millers are also facing financial difficulties. They said that the government has delayed payments since the 2016-17 procurement season. This has disrupted their cash flow and made it hard for them to run their daily operations smoothly. On top of that, financial penalties for not meeting Fair Average Quality (FAQ) standards have added more pressure.
The association has asked for immediate financial and regulatory help from the government. They warned that if action is not taken soon, the rice milling industry and the agricultural sector could suffer.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu assured the millers that their issues would be taken seriously. He said that the Cabinet Sub-Committee will prepare a report with suggestions and present it to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for final approval.
