Hyderabad: The Justice PC Ghose Commission has allowed the Telangana Government to act on reports from the Vigilance & Enforcement Directorate about the damage to the Medigadda barrage under the Kaleshwaram project. The government can also decide on the findings of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) regarding the safety of these structures.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy presented the 650-page report from the Ghose Commission in the assembly on Sunday. The Commission stated that it has been in regular contact with the Irrigation Department, seeking clarifications during its investigation into the Kaleshwaram project.
Justice PC Ghose mentioned that the government can act on the final recommendations of the NDSA as per their suggestions and legal guidelines. The Commission refrains from commenting further on the actions taken or to be taken by the state authorities following their investigations.
The Commission’s primary focus was to conduct a Judicial Inquiry into allegations of irregularities and misuse of public funds in building the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla Barrages. It has decided not to review or analyze these allegations further, leaving the government to act according to the law.
The Commission noted that the previous state government did not approve the entire project at once but rather issued 73 separate approvals, totaling Rs 1,10,248.48 crore. There were no clear government orders on the funding arrangement for the project.
