Hyderabad – The Telangana government has started work to fix the structural problems in the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. These key parts of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project were recently reviewed by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), which submitted a detailed report with safety recommendations.
After reviewing the findings, the state formed a five-member official committee on Friday. This group will focus on studying the NDSA’s advice and putting the necessary safety measures into action.
The NDSA report urged the government to take a complete and scientific approach to repair the damaged barrages. It called for a full check-up of each structure’s current condition, along with urgent stabilization work to prevent further damage.
Experts also recommended geotechnical studies and geophysical tests to understand the condition of the ground beneath the barrages. These studies will help engineers make smart decisions during future repairs.
To improve the safety and efficiency of the barrages, the report also advised using hydraulic modeling and advanced mathematical design software. These tools can simulate water flow and pressure to identify weak points in the structures.
The NDSA emphasized the need for long-term planning. It encouraged collaboration between engineers, scientists, and other stakeholders to make sure the barrages stay safe and strong in the years ahead.
The government’s quick response shows its commitment to protecting one of the state’s most important irrigation systems and ensuring water security for the region.
