Hyderabad – After a deadly fire at Gulzar Houz claimed 17 lives, the Telangana government has formed a special team to investigate what went wrong and how to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The team includes six senior officials who will look into the cause of the fire, check how well emergency services responded, and suggest steps to stop such incidents from happening again.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who also oversees Hyderabad, announced that the investigation will be thorough and carried out on the ground. The report will go directly to the Chief Minister and will detail how each department responded to the fire.
The committee members are:
– Anudeep Durishetty, Hyderabad Collector
– C.V. Anand, City Police Commissioner
– Y. Nagi Reddy, Director General of Fire Services
– R.V. Karnan, GHMC Commissioner
– A.V. Ranganath, HYDRA Commissioner
– Md Musharraf Faruqui, CMD of TSSPDCL
The fire broke out on May 18, and the officials are expected to dig deep into the root causes. Field-level inspections will be key to understanding how the tragedy unfolded.
Minister Prabhakar said the government has already sent fresh safety guidelines to officers working on the ground. These steps aim to make sure that places like markets and mixed-use buildings—where people live and work—are better prepared for emergencies.
Once the committee finishes its work, the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and other top officials will review the findings and take action.
To improve urban fire safety, the government also plans to launch stronger awareness drives, tighten building inspections, and boost emergency preparedness across high-risk areas in the city.
