The government has imposed a 40% duty on the export of onions in order to increase the availability of onions in the domestic market. This is the first time ever that an export duty has been imposed on onions. The decision was made as the retail price of onions in Delhi reached Rs 37/kg. The export duty will remain in effect until December 31, 2023.
