Hyderabad: Telangana aims to lead the nation in the power sector. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka shared that the state has a solid plan to make this happen.
At a gathering at Praja Bhavan on Saturday, he announced a rise in Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees in the power sector. The state puts employee welfare first, so the government increased the DA by 1.944% for power workers and retirees.
This decision benefits 71,417 individuals, including artisans. The DA, now raised from 14.074% to 16.018%, is effective from January this year.
The DA hike will cost power utilities an extra Rs.11.193 crore each month. Despite this, employee welfare remains a key focus. Electricity is vital for industry, much like air is for life. In March 2023, under the previous government, the peak demand was 15,000 MW. This demand surged to 17,162 MW by March 2025 after the Congress took charge, increasing by 2,000 MW. Despite rising demand, the government and power workers ensured a steady power supply, Vikramarka noted.
Looking ahead, the state expects a higher demand. A central report predicts Telangana‘s peak demand will hit 26,299 MW by 2029–30 and 33,773 MW by 2034–35.
To prepare, the government is already planning to increase power generation, stated Bhatti Vikramarka.
