Hyderabad: The Telangana State government took a big step on Wednesday by paying off nearly 10,000 unpaid bills owed to Gram Panchayats, releasing a total of ₹153 crore in one go.

In a major push to clear old dues, the government processed exactly 9,990 pending bills in a single day. These payments were all bills under ₹10 lakh each.

Officials stated that the government is focusing on clearing all outstanding bills up to August 2024. This move aims to support local bodies and restore financial stability at the village level.

They also highlighted that the previous administration had left behind a large backlog of unpaid bills, creating financial pressure on rural development programs.

In addition to the Gram Panchayat payments, the government also released ₹85 crore for various projects under the Special Development Fund (SDF). These funds will help speed up infrastructure and public service works across the state.

This financial clearance is expected to boost confidence among contractors, speed up rural development, and ensure smoother functioning of village-level administration.
