Heatwave Warning in Telangana: Hyderabad to Reach 44°C This Week
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a heatwave will continue in several parts of Telangana. Hyderabad is expected to get much hotter starting Thursday, with temperatures rising sharply.
According to the latest five-day weather forecast from the Meteorological Centre in Begumpet, Hyderabad’s daytime temperatures will go up from the current 36–40°C range to around 41–44°C on Thursday and Friday. Neighboring districts like Medchal-Malkajgiri, Ranga Reddy, and Vikarabad will experience a similar rise in temperature.
Some districts have already been affected. On Wednesday, isolated heatwave conditions were reported in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, and Nirmal. The IMD said that on Thursday and Friday, the heatwave will also affect Jagtial and Nizamabad.
More districts such as Jagitial, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, and Medak will continue to experience very high temperatures between 41°C and 44°C over the next four days. In the northern parts of Telangana, including Adilabad, Mancherial, Komaram Bheem, and Nirmal, temperatures could even go beyond 44°C until April 25 before they start to cool slightly.
In southern Telangana, places like Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Nagar Kurnool, and Narayanpet will also see temperatures rise to between 41°C and 44°C starting Thursday.
The IMD declares a heatwave when temperatures reach 40°C or more in plains or go 4.5°C to 6.4°C above normal. A severe heatwave is declared if the temperature rises more than 6.4°C above normal or goes over 47°C.
There is no heatwave warning for April 26, which may mean that temperatures could drop or remain steady after that date.
