Adilabad experienced strong thunderstorms and heavy rain starting Saturday morning. These conditions caused streams and rivulets to overflow, cutting off connections to many villages.
Residents, who had been eagerly waiting for rain, were caught off guard by the downpour. The Adilabad district faced intense rainfall from Friday night due to a low-pressure trough.
In the town of Adilabad, continuous rain for four hours led to flooding in areas like Koja Colony, Rani Satiji Colony, GS Estate, and Green Park Colony. The backwater from drains made these neighborhoods dirty and uncomfortable. District Collector Rajarshi Shah and SP Akhil Mahajan used JCB machines to unclog drainage canals, preventing a major flood.
In Jainath, the Tarnam stream overflowed, disrupting travel to Maharashtra. In the Boath constituency, heavy rains submerged Ichoda mandal center and Sai Nagar Colony.
In Sai Nagar, a bridge collapsed, and water entered homes. Social worker Umesh responded to help residents by organizing JCB machines to redirect rainwater away from houses.
Boath MLA Anil visited a flooded girls’ residential school in Ichoda to comfort the students. He encouraged the community to report any issues promptly.
In Seetagondi village, Gudihatnur mandal, six members of the Gayakwad Ganesh family were trapped in their home due to nonstop rain. Collector Shah and SP Mahajan quickly called the District Disaster Response Force (DDRF), who rescued the family and safely relocated them to Adilabad.
The overflowing streams filled the Kadem reservoir to its limit. Seventeen of its eighteen gates were opened, releasing 161,051 cusecs of water into the Godavari River. Special centers are being established at district headquarters to assist with relief efforts.
