Rain showers are sweeping across many parts of Hyderabad, bringing relief from the heat but also causing traffic chaos.

Several neighborhoods, including Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Panjagutta, Ameerpet, Hitech City, Gachibowli, Madhapur, Kukatpally, Secunderabad, Uppal, and LB Nagar, experienced steady rainfall. The showers also reached areas like Alwal, Patancheru, Ramachandrapuram, Ameenpur, and nearby regions.

In some low-lying areas, rainwater collected quickly, flooding roads and blocking traffic. Commuters faced long delays, especially during the evening rush hour, as vehicles moved slowly or got stuck.

The downpour is linked to the southwest monsoon, which arrived in Telangana nearly two weeks earlier than usual. The monsoon moved into the state after entering Andhra Pradesh last week. This early arrival is influenced by an active surface trough and strong southwest winds.

Weather officials have predicted heavy rainfall in several Telangana districts, including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba, and Gadwal.

The Hyderabad Meteorological Department says the rest of the state can expect light to moderate rain along with gusty winds over the coming days.

Adding to the weather activity, a low-pressure area is expected to form over the west-central Bay of Bengal. If it strengthens, both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh could see more widespread and intense rain.

Interestingly, the monsoon entered Telangana on the first day of the Rohini Karte, a traditional weather period that lasts until June 8. This aligns with local beliefs about the beginning of the rainy season in the region.
