Hyderabad: The city of Hyderabad is facing serious sanitation problems. Garbage is piling up on roads, making the situation unpleasant and difficult for people living there. Despite government efforts to improve the city’s appearance and promote green initiatives, little has been done to fix the garbage issue.
Residents say that garbage is not being collected from their homes for several days. As a result, they are forced to throw their waste at certain spots, causing large piles of trash to build up. These areas have become hard to walk or drive through because of the smell and mess.
People living in different parts of the city, including Nampally, Malakpet, Santosh Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Kukatpally, and the Old City, are all facing similar problems. The situation has gotten worse in the Old City especially after recent heavy rains. Residents have asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to clear the garbage, carry out fogging, and conduct cleanliness drives, but no action has been taken.
Sumanth, a resident of Yousufguda, said that many complaints have been made both online and offline, and even on social media, but nothing has changed. Another local person mentioned that the roads are filthy and the smell is unbearable, making it hard for people to move around.
Activists and locals agree that proper sanitation is very important. When waste is left unattended, it not only smells bad but also creates health risks. Mohammed Ahmed, a TDP leader, pointed out that poor garbage and drainage management can lead to mosquito breeding and other problems.
Although the GHMC has systems like the My GHMC app, a helpline, and social media platforms to report problems, many citizens say their complaints are marked as ‘resolved’ without any real action. This creates confusion and misleads both the public and top officials.
