Safran’s Rs.1,300 crore facility near RGIA to service LEAP engines; promises smoother flights and tourism growth
Hyderabad, November 28, 2025 – Hyderabad is set to become more accessible to travelers with the inauguration of a brand-new aircraft engine maintenance facility near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), promising improved flight connectivity and a potential boost to tourism in Telangana.
Safran Aircraft Engine Services India
The facility — Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) — was inaugurated this week, marking a significant milestone in India’s aviation self-reliance. The new facility spans around 45,000 square meters and has been established with an investment of approximately Rs.1,300 crore.
Strategic Importance
SAESI will service LEAP-type aircraft engines, which power widely used aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX. This is the first time a global engine manufacturer has set up such a maintenance operation in India, signaling growing confidence in the country’s aviation infrastructure and technical capabilities.
Impact on Travel and Tourism
For travelers, the facility means:
- Reduced aircraft downtime for maintenance
- Better flight reliability and connectivity
- More frequent services as airlines can maintain engines locally
- Potentially lower ticket prices due to reduced maintenance costs
Tourism Boost for Telangana
The move could quietly transform travel for tourists heading to Hyderabad and the wider Telangana region. Improved aviation infrastructure typically leads to:
- Increased flight frequencies
- Better connectivity to international and domestic destinations
- Enhanced destination appeal
- Growth in business and leisure tourism
India’s Aviation Self-Reliance
The establishment of SAESI represents more than just a maintenance facility—it’s a sign that Indian aviation is becoming more self-reliant. Previously, airlines had to send engines abroad for major maintenance, causing delays and added costs.
With Hyderabad now hosting this world-class facility, India’s aviation sector gains critical infrastructure that supports both domestic carriers and international airlines operating in the country.
The facility is expected to create numerous high-skilled jobs and position Hyderabad as an emerging hub for aerospace maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services.
